Assistant Finance Controller:
Monthly returns
Conducting full reconciliations on VAT returns.
Respond to queries from SARS.
Assist SARS with audits
To ensure that all returns are paid on time each month and that they balance
Management responsibilities
Developing, adapting & revising the accounting system to meet the Company needs.
Supervising the day to day operation of the accounting dept. with full responsibility for the quality and quantity of work performed; training & development of subordinates, work schedules.
Provide either directly or through the Controller the status of financial resources & trends as revealed by accounting data & selecting a manner of presentation that is meaningful to management.
Assist in continual improvement of operations through suggestions for cost control, collections, tax reductions or similar programmes.
Assist the Controller in budgeting activities (both annual and forecast).
Assist in all aspects of inventory costing and reporting, including scrap, physical inventory, updating the Bills of material & labour standards
To ensure that the company’s accounting system in compliant with generally accepted accounting practices and with Lear Corporation policies
Monthly financial reporting
Collecting relevant data from various sources, collating information
Compiling various reports on a monthly and annual basis.
Explaining the variances.
Processing/review monthly journals.
Has the primary responsibility for month-end & year-end closing. Includes general ledgers, submission of certain reports & analyses of accruals.
Income Statement, Balance Sheet Statistics, Headcount, Variance Walks, Actual Reporting In Hyperion.
Review of monthly general ledger reconciliations
To ensure that accurate financial reports are compiled & available as required
Control of general ledger
Run month end interfaces.
Run pre-month end and reconcile control accounts.
On accounting package, analyze the previous day’s transactions.
Should problems arise, determine in which module they have occurred.
Problem solves accordingly.
Reconciliation of general ledger to all subsidiary ledgers on a monthly basis.
To check on daily balance and ensure that problems are dealt with speedily and ensure that monthly reconciliations are conducted.
Preparation of tax packs for auditors. Compile schedules from year-end information which is made available to auditors when required.
Full responsibility for preparing year-end audit files & reconciliations.
Respond to queries from SARS.
To ensure that auditors are equipped with accurate information.
Special projects
Analysis of costs e.g. for six sigma.
Preparation of relevant information and data.
Assist the Controller in all reporting functions
To ensure that the six sigma black belt is supplied with relevant information pertaining to costs and cost savings.
Monitoring of internal control compliance
Preparation of ICQ and undertaking internal control audits
Responsible for all cycles.
Maintain & update all system descriptions and financial policies and procedures relating to Debtors, Production, Stock, Stock Take and Cycle Counts.
Maintain SOX files in Hyperion.
Prepare Quarterly Attests.
Approve all SOX forms for master file changes (prices, customers and supplier master).
User Access Review (bi-annually).
Segregation of duties (annually).
SOX narratives.
Maintain SOX permanent file.
To ensure the sound application of internal controls.
Cashbooks
Reconciling and updating of cashbooks.
Allocation of GL codes to EFT and cheque requisitions and cancel supporting documentation.
Review cash flow forecasts. Review petty cash recon/counts.
Ad hoc audits of petty cash. Reconcile LEX and forecasted bank balances.
To ensure that cashbooks are up to date and fully reconciled monthly

Stock
Attend stock take as stock take auditor
Process inventory adjustments as submitted by Logistics
Annual Financial Statements
Comply with auditors
Assist with audit
Fixed Assets
Maintain and update the Fixed Assets register.
Reconcile Fixed Assets register to General Ledger.
Accounts Receivable
Reconcile accounts receivable from Sub Ledger to General Ledger to statement.
Capture and allocate receipts.
Required Skills
Special Requirements

Related Experience
3 years (excluding articles)
Educational Requirements
Relevant tertiary qualification e.g. a B.Com degree with articles, Computer literacy, Excel, Word, QAD (or other financial accounting payroll systems, eg, VIP) advantageous.
