3.1.Work Description
The Adherence and Retention Counsellor is responsible for providing information and support to Participants as well as rendering psychosocial support counselling and mentoring on a regular basis resulting in adherence to the Study and retention of Participants.
3.2.Technical Work Responsibilities
Create and maintain favourable relationships with Internal and External Stakeholders
Participate in Counselling Quality Assurance Audits and Competency Assessments
Provide counselling and mentoring services resulting in the retention of Volunteers/Participants
Manage Participant Support Forums
Manage counselling administration
Recommend Counselling and Retention Strategies in accordance with relevant legislation and policies
Generate routine Reports and Correspondence
Identification and escalation of high-risk situations or unresolved Volunteer/Research Participant queries
Identification of process inadequacies and recommendations
Document Counselling Sessions as per Study Worksheets
Utilise Study Worksheets to guide follow up Counselling Sessions
Create a non-judgmental Support Forum for Study Participants to speak honestly about their experiences, thoughts and intent of Product use
Meet with Study Participants as per the protocol to review Participants’ experiences
Motivate and encourage Participants to continue with the Medication
Utilise the specified counselling method (Next Step Counselling) and recommend an effective Counselling Strategy in accordance with the relevant legislation and policies
Explain Study Product use to Participants
Inform Line Management of any suspicion of social/self-harm
Inform Line Management of any reports of overdoses
Obtain and manage detailed Locator Data from Volunteers at each counselling session
Follow up on Participants overall wellbeing and facilitate the completion of Trials
Develop and recommend Retention Strategies to Line Management in accordance with the relevant legislation and policies
Compile Progress Reports
Provide Strategy recommendations based on process evaluation findings
Manage counselling administration
Participate in Counselling Quality Assurance Audits and Competency Assessments
Manage Internal and External Stakeholder correspondence
Identification and escalation of high-risk situations or unresolved Volunteer/Research Participant queries
Requirements:
Education
Matric/ Grade 12
HIV/AIDS Counselling Certificate or similar
Advantageous
GCP Certificate
Experience
Minimum 2 years’ experience in HIV counselling and testing
Minimum 2 years’ community education and mobilisation experience
Advantageous
Counselling experience
Requirements:
Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Valid Driver’s License and own vehicle
SA Citizen or valid work permit to work in South Africa
Minimal/Moderate/Excessive overnight travel (up to 30%) by land or air if required
Willing to work overtime
