Genuine Connection is opening a new production line and requires the services of a dedicated and energetic person to fill the position of SEWING SUPERVISOR at their Paarl offices.
The purpose of this job is to pre-plan and set up a production line in the sewing room; monitor and drive production targets; train workers to apply optimal sewing methods and finally to monitor the quality of work delivered (i.e. to measure hourly output to achieve optimal efficiency).
Knowledge & Experience Required
Grade 12 or equivalent experience, knowledge and skill level
Demonstrate numerical and literacy on minimum Grade 10 level
Minimum of 5 – 8 years’ previous experience of working on industrial sewing machines within a sewing production line environment
3 to 5 years’ previous experience as Production Line Supervisor within a clothing factory
Basic knowledge of disciplinary procedures and team motivational aspects
Good knowledge of sewing and industrial sewing machine daily maintenance
Introduction to work-study principles and able to work with a stopwatch and a calculator
Experience or qualification in garment construction and knowledge of basic pattern construction
Skills required:
Able to communicate fluently in Afrikaans and/or English – oral and written communication
Must be versatile in the following sewing machine skills: plain machines; safety stich machines; cover stitch machines; buttonhole; buttonsew; bartack; and multi-needle chain stitch machines
Must be versatile in the following operations: zip setting; collar setting; button stands; pocket setting; piping and binding
Accurate with a high level of attention to detail
Strong sense of quality with a high sense of compliance
Good administrative skills for accurate record-keeping
Key Outputs
Attend Style Discussions to identify critical features for each style
Ensure that machine layout is arranged as discussed during Style Discussions
Instruct workers on how to implement optimal methods and maintain methods on each style
Focus on – and clear – any bottleneck operation(s) on a continuous and hourly basis
Take corrective action on operator output each hour / Drive Operator Performance
Take corrective action on Production Line efficiency trends
Take corrective action on Quality reports and trends
Team discipline and leadership
Training and administration
