Job Title: Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic

Job Description:
Transport and Logistics companies looking for a full-time qualified Diesel Mechanic with minimum 5 years’ experience working on heavy-duty trucks (Volvo, Scania, Mercedes) and trailers, sound knowledge of engines, gearboxes, diff’s, brakes, electronics, and air systems. The candidate must have sober habits and be willing to work overtime when required. The candidate should be willing to be on standby with own transport.
Responsibilities:
· Carry out maintenance and preventative service in accordance with the schedule plan during truck downtime.
· Inspect, diagnose and repair trucks and trailers in line with industry protocols.
· Order parts and equipment on a need to order basis and advise on the procurement of required parts and equipment.
· Ensure effective utilization of parts – New and used.
· Attend to breakdowns and provide remote telephone support to drivers.
· Assesses services rendered by external suppliers are of high quality within the agreed scope of work.
· Maintain accurate records of each repair done on trucks and trailers
· Maintain register of fleet tyres serial numbers for record-keeping
· Undertake fault diagnostic analysis using computer equipment
· Adhere to proper planning and prioritization of tasks to be carried out.
· Complete all work to a “right first time standard”
· Prepare and submit vehicles to a standard appropriate for the issuing of an annual test certificate (Roadworthy certificate)
· Communicate accurately with management as to Work in Progress and any anticipated delays or issues
· Attend to any other ad-hoc duties as required
· Ensure 24/7 Support service (standby)
Skills & Experience:
· At least 5 years’ experience as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic
· Excellent knowledge of heavy-duty trucks and trailers mechanics & electronics
· Driving License (preferably code14)
· Valid Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate
· Excellent understanding of vehicle maintenance requirements and procedures.
· Effective verbal and written skills coupled with strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
· Planning and time management
· Ability to work unsupervised
