Job Summary
The TAC Pulse ERS Emergency Dispatcher receives emergency calls by telephone, radio system or computer-aided dispatch system. They question callers to obtain the information needed to determine an appropriate course of action and dispatch an ambulance accordingly. They also must create and maintain logs of all calls received and prepare reports as necessary. They’re responsible for determining the nature of the calls they receive, as well as the location of the callers.
They also are responsible for monitoring the location of emergency service personnel. Using this information, the TAC Pulse ERS emergency dispatchers direct the appropriate type and number of emergency service units to emergency scenes. The TAC Pulse ERS emergency dispatcher must maintain communication with the dispatched units to monitor their response.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Receive emergency and non-emergency calls and record significant information
Address problems and requests by transmitting information or providing solutions
Prioritize calls according to urgency and importance
Use radio, phone or computer to send crews, vehicles or other field units to appropriate locations
Monitor the route and status of field units to coordinate and prioritize their schedule
Provide field units with information about orders, traffic, obstacles, and requirements
Enter data into a computer system and maintain logs and records of calls, activities and other information
Monitor admin activities of staff to ensure that all operational requirements are met
Coordinates with appropriate personnel, corporate and/or government agencies relating to issues assigned by upper management
Participates in marketing activities and ensures that marketing material is available
Organize interdepartmental activities that have been assigned for completion
Research and develops new processes that will improve day-to-day business activities
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Skills & Experience:
Minimum one (1) year experience working in an Emergency Dispatching Centre.
Excellent Communicator
Ability to work under pressure
must be able to multi-task as well as take the appropriate action with little supervision
Tech-savvy
Fast typing with experience in data entry
Knowledge of procedures and guideline for emergency situations
Proficient in English (oral and written)
Outstanding organizational and multitasking abilities
Active listener with excellent communication skills
Sound judgment and critical thinking
Education Required
High school graduate required (Grade 12)
Basic Life Support (BLS / BAA) Certified
