GAAP Point of Sale is recruiting a Health and Safety Officer (new role). The successful applicant will be reporting to the Managing Director or their nominees at GAAP where applicable.

Purpose of the role:

The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing company employee safety at work. Their main duty is to ensure that the company adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) rules and guidelines. This role ensures a safe working environment to prevent injuries and accidents in the workplace.

*Location: This post will be based at the GAAP Midrand branch, Johannesburg (travel outside of Gauteng may be required occasionally).

Job Specification:

Conduct Health & Safety and Security risk assessments
Training of staff in Health and Safety matters
Liaise with staff and clients on health and safety matters
Housekeeping
Incidents records
Implement compliance actions to ensure applicable policies, procedures, standards, and legislation are adhered to within all allocated sites/ branches
Investigate non-conformance and ensure corrective and preventative action is implemented
Escalate any areas of concern to management
Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes

Minimum Requirements & Competencies:

National Diploma (Health & Safety) and or equivalent Safety qualification
3 years of experience as a Safety Officer or similar role
Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
Experience in writing policies and procedures for health and safety
Proficient in MS Office
Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
Working knowledge of safety management information system
Outstanding organizational skills
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Must be a team player
Need to be an exceptional communicator, both verbally & written
Good interpersonal skills
Must have own reliable motor vehicle
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must be willing to work after hours when needed
