About:

A large wholesale bakery based in Linbro Business Park requires the service of a junior chef. The organization supplies bread, rolls, sandwiches and confectionary throughout the Gauteng region – and feeds approximately 100 000 people a day. The successful candidate is to ensure the smooth and focused production process of ready-to-eat products produced in the high care kitchen.

Key functions of the position:

§ Cook and/or prepare food in a timely manner according to work instructions.

§ Delegate tasks to kitchen staff and monitor performance.

§ Inform kitchen staff about daily requirements and ensure targets are met.

§ Ensure appealing product presentation and taste.

§ Monitor stock levels.

§ Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items.

§ Manage kitchen equipment; and ensure correct cooking utensils and equipment, like knives, pans and kitchen scales, are available and well maintained.

§ Study each recipe and make suggestions on changes in ingredients and/or processes.

§ Experiment with recipes and suggest new ingredients.

§ Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area.

Requirements:

§ Culinary school diploma preferred

§ Proven work experience as a junior chef or cook

§ Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment

§ Advanced knowledge of ready-to-eat products

§ Leadership and management skills

§ Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks

§ Excellent time management abilities

§ Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes

§ Familiarity with sanitation regulations

Additional Information:

§ This position requires the candidate to work full time during the week.

§ Remuneration – R 15 000 pm.
