ROLE SUMMARY
Based in Rosslyn, South Africa and reporting to the Associate Manager SHE you will manage and control activities of the SHE program in the manufacturing plant by implementing systems, policies, procedures and practices in compliance with local legislation and corporate requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES
SHE SYSTEM COMPLIANCE – Ensure development, implementation and compliance with SHE management system by:
Develop and maintain site SHE policies and procedures with guidance from SCJ SHE requirements, ISO and local or country legislation
Monitor performance indicators to continuously improve and achieve set goals, including drafting and executing Reduction Improvement Plans (RIPs)
Conduct SHE GEMBA, inspections and SHE management system audits.
Conduct SHE assessments (e.g machine guarding , LOTO, risk assessment etc), collect monitoring data and coordinate corrective and preventive actions
Manage contractors associated with SHE programs
Work with other pillars and functions to incorporate SHE controls into daily work procedures.
Document, conduct and participate in incident and non-compliance investigations and problem-solving events
Utilize the SCJ data management system for reporting of incidents and non-compliances, and verification and tracking of corrective and preventive actions, as well as maintaining SHE performance reporting systems
Understand local and country legislation in order to monitor compliance, update policies and procedure, perform regulatory reporting, submit permits and report incidents and non-compliance
Ensure the development and delivery of training and awareness communication
Maintain applicable records
Perform other support activities for non-assigned SHE programs as needed

TRAINING:
Creating awareness on S/H/E management System, legislation and SCJ Global SHE requirements through distribution of literature, training and posters
Driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Identify production variances and take the required corrective action to eliminate them.
Initiate new programs on minimizing cost/waste.

REPORTS: Developing technical, statistical performance and system reports indicating the plant SHE performance.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Diploma / Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Chemistry and/or Engineering or related field
3 to 5 years of experience in SHE function, Manufacturing and Production
Thorough knowledge of the OHS Act, its regulation and other South African legislation
S/H/E knowledge in a chemical-related workplace
Occupational hygiene knowledge.
Knowledge of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA)
Leadership and management skills – Possess leadership, people skills and communication abilities
Influencing skills – Can effectively garner support from others, negotiate persuasively and create win/win outcomes
Technical knowledge – Has Project Management skills, SHE knowledge in a chemical related workplace, good knowledge of local or country SHE legislation, risk assessment capability, completed required SHE related training courses and certifications and is capable of training and developing skill level of others
