MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent
N2 plus Section 13 Trade Test as a Qualified Boilermaker or section 26 (D)
At least 3 years’ underground experience as a Qualified Artisan
Valid Driver’s License
Medical Fitness certificate
Valid First Aid Certificate

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Construction and erection of structures and infrastructure
Equipment installation, repair, and maintenance
Workshop procedures
Installation and maintenance of pipe columns, tanks, and structures
Working knowledge of the Mine Health & Safety Act and Regulations
Working knowledge of Codes of Practice and Working Guides
Basic rigging practice
Safety procedures
Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings
Understand and know the properties and treatment of steel
Understand and know the properties of non-ferrous metals and alloys
Efficient material and spares control
Maintain equipment economically

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Report all incidents and accidents
Risk assessments must be carried out for each and every task
Ensure tools and equipment is sufficient, in good condition and safe to use.
All legal inspections must be carried out according to the time intervals and a true report is recorded in the record book.
Ensure that any equipment inspected which is not safe to use is withdrawn from the operation and either locked out, locked away or destroyed.
Attend all safety meetings which are scheduled
The individual must ensure that all persons in his/her working environment work safely and wear all the necessary PPE.
The individual must act on all unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.
Be responsible for his/her subordinates
Maintenance schedules are to be adhered to
Operator pre-use checklist must be checked regularly and signed off
The individual is responsible to carry out the planned maintenance as per the maintenance schedule.
The individual is responsible for the repair of breakdowns inside the section
Record breakdown detail on the checklists and in the notebook
Assess the machine and identify the problem.
Ensure the safe and correct installation or erection of equipment is conducted on time
Ensure that the following is carried out regarding spares:
Always ensure that the minimum stock level is available for maintenance spares.
Report to your supervisor when the minimum stock level has been reached and record requirements in the spares logbook
Should critical spares be used due to breakdowns the supervisor must be informed that same day to re-order the spares

The individual must immediately report to his supervisor should he/she notices a difference in the quality of the spares or wrong or damaged spares which was supplied
Maintenance is to be conducted at the correct intervals.
Maintenance done is to be recorded on the appropriate format
