CONSTRUCTION MANAGER: SECUNDA
Full filling the role as Construction Manager on the Fine Ash Dam 6 (FAD6) Project forming an integral part of the Sasol Group Technology Owners Management Team (OMT). The Employer intends to support the life extension of Secunda Operations facilities by constructing a new Fine Ash Dam being number six (FAD6). This will take the ash generated by Employers Operations in stages as FAD5 is being decommissioned. The construction of the project is underway and will be completed in various phases within and adjacent to the operating ash disposal facilities.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Construction Management:

Conduct constructability studies and convert into constructability reports (review sessions and approvals with Employer representatives).
FLCM ‘Spatial Operational Committee Applications’ including renewals on an annual basis (request, present to Sasol Spatial and obtain required approvals).
Select, schedule and coordinate Principle and Sub-Contractors for the FAD6 Project
Comply with legal requirements, Sasol building, and safety specifications and procedures and other regulations
Review and approve cost estimates, budgets and work on timetables
Report on work progress and budget matters to the Employer
Respond to work delays, emergencies and other project-related problems (measure progress, quality, and compilation of Early Warnings)
Responsible for good interfacing between Sasol Operations and contractors performing execution works on the Project
Conducting PDA’s (Potential Deviation Analysis Workshops)
Access and schedule alignment between Operations and Contractors within the Brownfields environment/work fronts (implementation of the works)
Liaise QA/QC inspections and final Handovers to Sasol Owners
Micro-Management of SMME Contractors (Construction of Outside Ash Workshops)
Chair daily monitoring meetings with all contractors performing work on the FAD6 Project (STS)

Review and approve CVI’s (site instructions), Cost Estimates and Early Warnings
In some instances due to plant upset conditions/PD Pump instability providing maintenance support to Operations

Project Management: (Representing Hatch and supporting role to Sasol Group Technology through all phases of the Project)

Ensuring good integration and alignment between Client and Hatch on a daily basis
Compile cost estimates, submit estimates for review and approval by the Client
Chairing weekly Progress Meetings with contractors when required
Review and approvals of monthly invoices
Compile monthly Hatch PMR and PSR reports for the FAD6 OMT contract
Provide support to Secunda Hatch Office on constructability reviews, timelines and resource loading for other projects

Qualifications and Experience:

Demonstrated health and safety management focus in the construction phase of project delivery, and extensive knowledge of health and safety management procedures, safe work practices, and applicable legislation
Engineering Degree or equivalent
Minimum five to seven years previous construction management experience
Strong leadership skills, the ability to lead a team and fit into a team environment
Working knowledge of Microsoft office applications
Effective report writing skills, planning, and organizational skills
Well developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
Able to communicate directly with the client on key issues

Extensive knowledge of all phases of construction operations relating to field activities of all engineering disciplines, construction and maintenance practices procedures and techniques and applicable codes and standards

Familiarity with a wide range of equipment, tools, and technologies used in construction
Well developed business and management principles related to strategic planning, resource allocation, production methods leadership and coordination of people and resources
