This role at divisional senior management level is for an expert within the SHEQFS discipline and reports to the Operations Director of the Division, in his capacity as the Executive responsible for SHERQFS. The role is located in Gauteng and spans across all of the Companies Operations. This incumbent has a strong focus on the management of information that influences divisional operational decision making processes for SHERQFS functions. He/she takes overall responsibility to coordinate development and implementation of SHERQFS strategies for the Division. He/she is therefore responsible for providing direction and guidance on matters relating to SHERQFS and relevant Risk Management at a divisional level. In addition, there is a strong emphasis on the development of a long term Zero Harm culture across the entire Company stakeholder society that includes customers, employees, contractors, service providers, farmers and surrounding communities.

The incumbent interfaces regularly with Divisional Senior Executives, General Managers, Senior Management at operations and corporate office, SHERQFS Managers, worker leadership (including trade unions), regulatory authorities, contractors senior management and communities (largely through the community participation forums).

Role and Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Divisional Senior Executives in developing and implementing effective SHERQFS strategies, goals and providing direction for SHERQFS functions is support of the broader Company strategy and business plans taking into account overall sustainability dynamics and global trends

Systems and Process: Manages a programme to implement the agreed SHERQFS priorities within the supply chain
Communication: Develop and communicate a plan for Divisional SHEQ that is aligned to the overall business agenda. Establish SHERQFS requirements as part of the core business making processes e.g. capital authorization. Upon invitation, participates at the Boards Risk, SHE, Social and Ethics Committee review meetings as a SHE Subject Matter Expert to present SHE reports, respond to findings, present progress in implementing SHE strategies in a manner that would guide the Committee in its decisions and actions. Lead the process of strengthening relationships and providing a communication link between the Risk, SHE, Social and Ethics Committee and key SHE stakeholders.,
This also includes Government and regulatory authorities in certain instances. Ensure effective interaction with General Managers and line Executives in order to synergise, optimise resources and secure alignment for SHE improvement plans.Internal and external communication/customer support.
Contribute to the broader development of the supply chain through active participation in the SHERQFS Leadership Team.
People: Management Representative – coordinate Management’s SHEQFS efforts notwithstanding the requirements of the International Standards regarding the role of the Management Representative.
Budgeting and Cost Management: Undertakes role of Strategic Sourcing Category Specialist for SHE to provide leadership and guidance in minimising SHE costs and achieving set saving targets in line with the budget.
Documentation: Performs role of management custodian for Corporate SHE Policy documents, standards and procedures, being responsible for driving the process of formulating drafts, securing authorisation, communicating, updating and maintaining them.
Leadership: Taking a leadership and supervisory role in providing guidance to SHE Managers and the Company Doctors/locum Doctors as they implement respective strategies for SHE, occupational health, primary health care and relevant public health care programmes (that include HIV/AIDS, Malaria).
Data Reporting: Consolidates SHE and sustainability data to produce progress reports for the Board, management and public reporting e.g. annual reports, Carbon Disclosure Projects (CDP) and CDP Water Project.
Internal Audits: Manage, maintain and improve on effective internal auditing functions
Systems and Processes: Oversee third party audit and certification processes for NOSA, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000/ISO 22000 at all operations
People: Assists the Managing Director, Line Executives and General Managers in identifying talent and developing necessary SHE technical and leadership skills among local employees with potential to be developed into SHE Managers taking into account Human Resources strategies aligned with the TH BBBEE business strategies. Execute HR plans to ensure retention and succession planning within the SHE function of the Company’s operations.
Qualifications Experience & Requirements:
A relevant tertiary qualification in the SHERQFS field is essential. Additionally an engineering or MBA qualification would be highly beneficial.
A proven track record with at least 5 years of experience involving the co-ordination and management of SHERQFS related matters, over multiple business units, or operations experience at a senior level, with the relevant knowledge and experience.
Requisite SHERQFS professional qualifications e.g. SAMTRAC, Auditors certificates, and membership accreditation with professional risk management bodies.
An in-depth knowledge of the NOSA CMB 253/330, the ISO 14001 and ISO45001, ISO 9001, ISO FSSC 22000 systems is required.
At least 5 years industrial background exposure i.e. operating in an industry e.g. engineering, process technology etc.
