New Generation of Academics’ Programme (nGAP)

The position is part of the nGAP initiative of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and comes with substantial support from the DHET. The appointment is also subject to

the conditions as set by the DHET and must be read in conjunction with the nGAP requirements of the DHET.

Appointment is made on the joint establishment of Stellenbosch University and the National Health Laboratory Service on the conditions of service of the University.

Duties:

·

Conducting microbiological research on topics aligned with institutional and national thematic priority areas and strategies;

·

Generating external grant funding to support the research;

·

Training and supervising postgraduate students and publishing scientific papers;

·

Participating in the Division’s and Faculty’s teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as managerial and administrative matters.

Required Skills
Proven experience with microbiological / molecular biology-related laboratory research

Candidate Requirements

Job Requirements:

·

Master’s degree in Microbiology or a related field;

·

Proven experience with microbiological / molecular biology-related laboratory research;

·

The applicant should aspire to an academic career as a scientist in medical microbiology and pursue further academic qualifications.

Recommendation:

·

PhD in a relevant field;

·

A strong track record in publishing scientific papers, generating external funding for research, and postgraduate student supervision;

·

Registration as a Medical Scientist (Medical Biological Scientist) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
